Youth Conference in The Pas

Youth Conference Celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Manitoba Human Rights Commission is pleased to announce its return to The Pas to host the 2008 “Our World, Your World, My World” Youth Conference.

“Students will be traveling from such communities as Split Lake, Cranberry Portage, Flin Flon and South Indian Lake to attend this year’s conference,” says Jerry Woods, Chairperson of the Commission and host of the youth conference.

According to Woods, the 2008 conference will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. “We want students to understand both the human rights issues faced around the world as well as right here in our own backyard,” he says, adding that “the world is changing and new issues emerge and even a country like Canada has to consider what may become a human rights issue in the future.”

The 2008 Manitoba Human Rights Northern Youth Conference begins at the Kikiwak Inn Wednesday evening, March 19 at 7:00 pm and continues on Thursday, March 20 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
