MHRC Info card to The Human Rights CodeComplaints

If you believe you have been discriminated against contact one of our human rights officers as soon as possible.

The discrimination must have occurred within the last year. If you are concerned about a pattern of behaviour or a policy that is discriminatory, it may still fall within the one-year timeline in The Human Rights Code.

Your enquiry is kept confidential.

You may file a complaint on behalf of someone else but we may require their consent to proceed with a complaint.

There is no cost to filing a complaint.

You may also book a 15 minute intake appointment with staff in our Winnipeg or Brandon offices to discuss your concern.

Contact us by phone, fax, or email to hrc@gov.mb.ca If your concern is something covered by The Human Rights Code we will ask you for more detail. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire and to provide us with a written statement that outlines your complaint of discrimination.

If, based on your information, your complaint meets our filing requirements, we will proceed to draft the complaint on the regulated complaint form. The complaint is usually 1-2 pages and must be signed by you.

If your issue does not fall within The Human Rights Code¸ we will do our best to refer to our other resources for assistance with your concern.

The Executive Director will register the complaint within 2 to 4 weeks of the complaint being signed and returned to us. We will serve the complaint on the respondent within 30 days of registration.
